About the event

Chris Parry 'CLARION's ground-breaking 2009 Anti-Submarine Warfare Conference brought together world-class expertise and opinion from military practitioners, innovative technology leaders and major industrial and service support partners. Within the context of a noticeable scramble for the sea' and its resources, it identified and highlighted the steady growth in investment in the military use and wider exploitation of the underwater environment and the proliferation of submarines of all types, especially by rising powers and those seeking to build powerful sea denial capabilities.

The conference also forecast and explored the more overt use of mini-submarines and other manned and unmanned underwater vehicles by both state and irregular players, uniquely anticipating the sub-surface attack on a South Korean corvette and highlighting the extensive use of narco-subs' and submersibles for covert, illicit penetration of maritime borders.

Despite these trends, ASW techniques, training and technologies continue to fall behind those required to deal with the levels of emerging threat in the face of more immediate Defence and Security priorities.

These threats and themes, together with leading-edge ideas and new technologies that can deal with the full range of nuclear, conventional and mini-submarine threats, will be discussed and demonstrated at CLARION's 2010 Conference in London. Contributions from senior maritime professionals, academics and representatives of the leading Defence and Security companies will, once again, provide fresh thinking about the problems and solutions associated with these rapidly emerging risks and offer the opportunity to explore new approaches.'
